LEE COUNTY (September 5, 2025) – On September 4, 2025 at approximately 9:13pm CDT, Lee County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded to Mike’s Grocery located in the 4000 block of Lee Rd. 166 in the Beauregard community of Lee County, Alabama, in reference to an armed robbery. The store clerk advised deputies that a black male wearing dark clothing and sunglasses grabbed a Sprite from the cooler and walked to the register. The suspect then pulled what appeared to be a handgun inside of a bag out of his waistband and told her to give him the money and threatened to shoot her if she did not comply with his demands. The suspect then left the store in a gray SUV. Lee County Investigators arrived on scene and were able to identify the suspect as Cortaveus Markeyon Eiland (23) from Opelika. Eiland was located at his residence in the 2000 block of Lee Rd. 400 and taken into custody. He was arrested and charged with Robbery 1st Degree.
Evidence obtained during the investigation of the robbery at Mike’s Grocery led to a second Robbery 1st Degree charge, naming Eiland for the robbery on August 18th, 2025, of the Dollar General store located in the 15000 block of Alabama Hwy. 51 in the Beauregard community of Lee County, Alabama. The suspect in that crime was a black male wearing dark clothing and sunglasses. The suspect walked up to the clerk, produced what appeared to be a handgun in a bag, pointed it at her and demanded money. The clerk complied, he ran out of the store and escaped in a gray SUV.
Eiland is being held in the Lee County Detention Center without bail, awaiting an Aniah’s Law hearing.
