Lee County Marine Operations is a special operations unit within the Lee County Sheriff's Office that is focused on performing search and rescue/recovery in lakes and waterways.
Lee County Marine Operations started as an idea of Captain Meadows and Deputy Cone during a conversation in 2022. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office already had a patrol boat, but there was an unfortunate need for trained individuals to perform search and rescue/recovery. In 2023, the Lee County Commission approved the funds to start the team.
Marine Operations aka “Dive Team” is now run by Captain McGuire and Deputy Cone. Cone is a former member of Division Delta Search and Recovery dive team out of the Montgomery area and has been diving for over 25 years. McGuire has been diving since 1998. The team includes nine divers and one boat captain from the Lee County Sheriff’s Office.
Lt. Darrell Downing of the Auburn Police Department has been instrumental in helping train, and getting our divers the certifications they need to perform their duties safely.
