LEE COUNTY (June 21, 2023) – Lee County Sheriff’s Office recently held a graduation for men in their Ready to Work program. Ready to Work is a program for inmates in the Lee County Detention Center, in partnership with Auburn University and Southern Union State Community College. This is one of the many programs within Lee County Detention Center to help with the transition after leaving the detention center and prevent recidivism.
Throughout the four-week program, these inmates are taught financial skills, networking, goal-setting, and commitment. Along with these skills, Pastor Skip, Andrea Long, Dr. Dunlap, Dr. Drew, Dr. Mulligan, and other speakers work to instill a sense of purpose and self-worth as well as help these inmates to develop plans for success for their futures. As part of their graduation, each of the men read a personal statement about what they learned in the program and how they plan to use those things upon release. The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is proud of the work that the men in this graduating class put into their time in the Ready to Work program.
Graduates of this program will receive one free class at Southern Union, courtesy of President Todd Shackett, upon their release and $1,000 toward court fees or charges from the Lee County court system, which was presented by Judge Steve Speakman.
