In the event of an emergency, this page will help you to keep track of information from many local agencies and news sources in one place.
This page is intended to help navigate to information quickly, but should not serve as your primary source of information.
If you need to report an emergency, be sure to call 9-1-1 immediately.
Before the Emergency - Getting your emergency kit ready
FEMA recommends that all households have an emergency kit with supplies to last for at least 72 hours. Be sure to tailor your emergency kit to your household's needs.
Once your kit is made, check it regularly to be sure that any expired items are replaced, rechargeable batteries are charged, and it still fits your needs. It is also a good idea to keep a smaller kit in your car in case you are stranded, alongside the vehicle-specific list below.
Emergency kit supplies to consider:
Water - one gallon per person per day for at least 3 days
Food - three day supply of non-perishable food
Infant formula, bottles, diapers, and wipes
Pet food & extra water for your pets
Manual can opener, disposable utensils, plastic or paper cups, paper plates, and paper towels
Flashlight & extra batteries
Cell phone charger and battery back-ups (be sure to keep them charged)
First aid kit
Prescription & non-prescription medications
Eyeglasses and contact lenses/contact solution
Cash or checks
Whistle
Dust mask - in case of contaminated air
Garbage bags
Moist towelettes, feminine supplies, and personal hygiene items
Books, puzzles, games, cards, coloring books, etc. to keep adults & children entertained
Sleeping bag or warm blanket for each person
Important family documents such as insurance policies, IDs, passports, and pet vaccine records saved electronically or in a waterproof, portable container
Matches in a waterproof container
Fire extinguisher
For your car kit:
Tire pressure gauge
Small, rechargeable air compressor
Jumper cables and/or jump box
Spare tire, jack, and lug wrench - Many cars come these. Be sure you know where they are and how to use them.
Road flares and/or hazard triangles (be sure they're reflective for night usage)
Window breaker tool
Seat belt cutter tool
Safer Locations
The Lee County Emergency Management Agency works to arrange and announce which locations are open during inclement weather for people needing safer locations. They will post these locations on their Facebook page as the information becomes available, and the locations will be activated (open) upon a tornado watch being issued.
Social Media Accounts

October training is underway! 🚛
After completing our weekly preventative maintenance checks on our resources, our team rolled straight into hands-on trailer driving and backing training.
The training gave our staff valuable practice maneuvering the equipment we may be called on to deploy during incidents, special events, and emergency operations. Safely and confidently moving trailers and resources is an important part of staying prepared and ready to respond.
It was a great way to start October, and we’re looking forward to continuing team training throughout the month as we sharpen our skills, maintain our equipment, and strengthen our capabilities to serve Lee County.

🚁🔥 Did you know ALEA’s UH-1 “Huey” can carry nearly 2,000 pounds of water in a single drop?
Using a 240-gallon bucket, ALEA Aviation has been assisting the Alabama Forestry Commission and local agencies with fire suppression efforts at Oak Mountain State Park in Shelby County.
Pilots fill the bucket from a nearby water source, then navigate through smoky conditions to deliver water directly where it’s needed, requiring precision and close coordination with crews on the ground.
ALEA is proud to support the Alabama Forestry Commission and the local first responders who have worked tirelessly to contain the fire and protect Oak Mountain State Park and the surrounding community.
Special thanks to the Alabama Forestry Commission for capturing and sharing these incredible photos of our Aviation Unit in action!

The Opelika Police Department is providing an update and clarification regarding an ongoing theft investigation involving OneMain Financial, located at 3796 Pepperell Parkway.
Following further investigation and coordination with the business, detectives have established that the incident occurred on August 10, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m. when the suspect entered OneMain Financial requesting a loan and presented an altered Alabama Driver’s license.
